Phrae: Two recent cyber police raids have provided significant insights into a data breach involving the Department of Land Transport and the Department of Provincial Administration. Cyber police seized computer equipment from two locations suspected of hacking personal data and summoned several minors for questioning in accordance with legal procedures. The investigation is set to expand as authorities aim to trace the origins of the hacking activities.
According to Thai News Agency, the investigation revealed that the perpetrators did not directly infiltrate the databases but instead compromised user accounts of agencies with access rights. The stolen personal data was subsequently sold or exchanged on platforms such as the Dark Web, Telegram, and Discord. The breaches were traced back to Phrae and Pathum Thani provinces. Search warrants issued by the Criminal Court enabled the cyber police to conduct searches at residences in these areas, resulting in the seizure of computer equipment for forensic analysis.
The investigation indicates that the perpetrators at the two raided locations appear to be unconnected. They are reportedly part of a group that discusses system vulnerabilities on social media platforms. Although several minors have been questioned, they have not been detained at this stage. Authorities are actively gathering leads to identify the masterminds and those who orchestrated the thefts, aiming to bring them to justice as the investigation progresses.
