Bang kruai: The Director of Forensic Science has confirmed the presence of life-threatening levels of cyanide in the body of a well-known journalist. Dr. Weerakit Hanpariphan, Director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, remarked on the autopsy results of Mr. Nattawut Ponglangka, a prominent TV reporter who passed away at his home on November 30th in Bang Kruai, Nonthaburi Province. The Institute of Forensic Medicine received his body for examination on December 1st and proceeded with standard procedures for testing toxic substances in blood and stomach contents, revealing cyanide residue at levels considered life-threatening.
According to Thai News Agency, when questioned about the presence of other substances in Mr. Nattawut's body, the Director of the Institute of Forensic Science mentioned that such information had already been confirmed with another government agency. He acknowledged that other substances might impact the case and promised further information would be provided in writing. However, he stressed the detection of cyanide at perilous levels.
The Director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences stated that determining whether the cyanide levels indicate poisoning or self-harm is up to the investigating officers. He emphasized his role was not to interfere with the investigation's outcome.
Addressing concerns about potential contamination of common food sources with cyanide, academics referenced past high-profile incidents. The responsibility to address this issue lies with the police, and the Institute of Forensic Science will forward its findings to law enforcement. There remains a possibility of implementing government measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
