Prachinburi:Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, has expressed concerns about the drainage system's current state, emphasizing the need for vigilance due to its inefficiencies.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to visit Prachinburi province, which has been affected by persistent flooding over the past 9-10 days. His visit aims to assess the situation firsthand, allowing for a better understanding of the residents' living conditions and to coordinate with various agencies to facilitate solutions for the affected population.
Mr. Jetseth noted the possibility of worsening conditions due to anticipated rainfall, stressing that vigilance remains crucial as the drainage system has not yet reached full efficiency. The drainage issues, particularly water retention in pipes, pose a risk of impacting the population, regardless of further rainfall. Special attention is being given to the central and southern regions, where monitoring is especially necessary.
Addressing concerns over the distribution of relief packages, Mr. Jetseth clarified that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is providing aid to all areas that have requested it from the central government. Despite allegations of politically-biased distribution, he assured that relief efforts are focused on need rather than political affiliation, with Bangkok currently receiving the largest share.
Mr. Jetseth urged against politicizing the distribution of relief, stating that focusing on political divisions hinders effective action and ultimately harms citizens. He emphasized the importance of cooperation beyond political boundaries to ensure that aid reaches all those in need.
