Chulalongkorn University Enters Quantum Technology Partnership with Qunova Computing

Bangkok: Chulalongkorn University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qunova Computing from the Republic of Korea to establish cooperation in research and development of quantum computing technology. According to Thai News Agency, Professor Dr. Vilelert Poorivachara, President of Chulalongkorn University, signed the agreement with Dr. Jae-wan Kim, Chief Product Officer of Qunova Computing, who was represented by Dr. Jun-doo Kevin Rhee, Founder and CEO of the company. The collaboration will focus on joint seminars and conferences, the exchange of scientists, researchers, and personnel, as well as joint research projects in quantum computing and related fields. For Thailand, a cloud-first approach has been chosen for quantum computing development, providing researchers access to quantum hardware via cloud platforms instead of building quantum machines domestically. Siam Quantum Square will serve as the academic hub, collaborating with partners such as IBM Thailand, the Quantum Technology Foundation (Thailand), Western Digital, Siam Commercial Bank, and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIST) in Japan. Professor Dr. Wileart emphasized that Thailand should not merely be a user of technology created by others but should participate in its development and in shaping its direction. This can only be achieved through collaboration with top-tier partners. "Today, Chulalongkorn University has gained a world-class partner, marking the first quantum partnership in Thailand. and shaping the future of quantum in Thailand, which must develop beyond just AI. starting with the Faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University," said Professor Dr. Vilelert. Dr. Jae-wan Kim remarked that he was impressed by the questions posed by the Thai side, particularly how researchers in medicine, physical science, and finance explained the real problems they faced. This dialogue was the starting point for beneficial quantum work and the reason for seeking this collaboration. Following the signing ceremony, a panel discussion was h eld to exchange perspectives on bringing quantum technology from academia to practical applications. Experts from KAIST, Qunova Computing, Siam Quantum Square SCBX, and the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital participated in sharing their experiences.
