Chinese SIM BOX Gang Leader Arrested in Thailand

Bangkok: Arrest of the Chinese SIM BOX gang leader who hired 4 Thais to install SIM BOX to receive phone signals from the Cambodian call center gang, deceiving Thais. Checking their history revealed a long list of cases in both Thailand and Taiwan.

According to Thai News Agency, at 11:40 a.m., Region 1 Provincial Police investigators arrested Mr. Chun Shen Liao, a 37-year-old Chinese man and ringleader of the call center gang, and brought him to Huai Khwang Police Station to file an arrest report. Earlier, Region 1 Provincial Police investigators and Phra Pradaeng Police Station officers, using a warrant from the Samut Prakan Provincial Court, raided a room in the Hua Mak area, seized equipment, and arrested four Thais hired to rent a room to install a SIM BOX last Friday.

From the investigation, 4 Thais implicated Mr. Chun Shen Liao as being hired by the police, so the police requested the Samut Prakan Provincial Court to issue an arrest warrant before raiding the condo this morning in the Pracha Uthit area and seizing 2 mobile phones, 1 computer, and 2 CCTV cameras.

It was found that Mr. Chun Shen Liao was previously arrested and charged with fraud and credit card forgery, leading to a 10-year prison sentence before his release and deportation in 2010. He returned to Thailand in 2012 despite having outstanding arrest warrants in Taiwan related to fraud and call center cases. The Region 1 Provincial Police Investigation Division is planning to transfer Mr. Chun Shen Liao to the Phra Pradaeng Police Station for further questioning and to expand the investigation.

Investigations revealed Mr. Chun was a key figure in a fake social account gang, selling information to the call center gang which targeted victims in Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Cambodia. He was also linked to two previous call center gangs in Cambodia.

During the initial investigation, Mr. Chun confessed to being hired by a Taiwanese associate to install a SIM BOX in Thailand, using equipment sourced from China and Cambodia. He had been facilitating phone signal reception for the Cambodian call center gang for three months prior to his arrest. He previously worked with a Cambodian call center gang and was recruited by the Taiwanese leader of the operation to set up the SIM BOX in Thailand.
