Bangkok: 'Wan Nor' has revealed that China comprehends the situation between Thailand and Cambodia and is hopeful for a resolution through diplomatic negotiations, emphasizing mutual non-interference.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Van Thu Hamad Noor Matha, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives, discussed China's stance on the Thai-Cambodian situation. He noted that adhering to diplomatic etiquette, countries refrain from meddling in each other's internal affairs. Nonetheless, through informal dialogues, Chinese officials have grasped the significance of the issue, recognizing it as crucial both domestically and internationally for Thailand to address. The Chinese government is in favor of resolving the matter through negotiations.
The Speaker emphasized that in the context of existing global challenges, including economic issues in the US and border-related concerns, it is vital for friendly nations to comprehend the border area dynamics. Although there is no direct intervention, fostering mutual understanding is beneficial. Furthermore, China, as a key player in the region, is seen as a pivotal partner in facilitating negotiations on various fronts.
Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor stressed the importance of China's understanding, indicating that it could be advantageous for Thai citizens and international relations. He articulated that misapprehension could result in setbacks within legislative or executive operations. Hence, it is crucial to nurture a positive narrative about Thailand on international platforms, while internal issues should remain separate and contained within the country.
Ms. Prinat Apirat, Consul-General in Shanghai, commented on the Thai community in China amid the Thai-Cambodian conflict, stating that there have been no reported irregularities and no anticipated issues at the public level between the Thai and Cambodian people residing there. The situation remains stable and unperturbed.
