Singapore: The China-Singapore Youth Dialogue recently concluded in Singapore, where youth from both nations engaged in discussions on technology, culture, and sustainability under the theme ‘Building Tomorrow: Youth Voices United.’ This two-day event, jointly organized by People’s Daily and Lianhe Zaobao, gathered 12 youth representatives to share insights on how the younger generation is influencing the future through innovation, cultural revitalization, and cross-border collaboration.
According to Thai News Agency, the dialogue featured several panel discussions. In the first session, “Youth Driving Tech Innovation,” participants from sectors such as robotics, flying cars, and digital data verification explored the opportunities and challenges presented by the AI era. Tan Wei Hua, Head of Design at LionsBot International, highlighted emerging job opportunities in robotics, addressing concerns about ‘AI anxiety.’ Similarly, Quah Zheng Wei, CEO and co-founder of Accredify, motivated aspiring entrepreneurs to seize opportunities in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Michael Du, CFO and VP of ARIDGE, emphasized how emerging technologies are enhancing daily life possibilities.
In the second session, “Contemporary Renewal of Traditional Culture,” the focus shifted to cultural heritage. Artists and cultural professionals discussed the modern revival of traditions in fields like wood carving, paper art, and jewelry design. Wood carver Deng Kun stressed the importance of training the eye for beauty, while Zhang Heyang, an arts and culture journalist for Lianhe Zaobao, described traditional culture as a “spiritual refuge” for today’s youth. Designer Longhong Ziwei and artist Koh Pei Li shared how cultural inspiration drives their work and connects people to overlooked beauty.
The final session, “Jointly Building a Sustainable Future,” offered interdisciplinary perspectives from architecture, fashion, and marine conservation. Chen Kan of TAB Architecture and Design introduced the concept of ‘being-with’ to promote coexistence in design. Goy Zhenru of Goy Architects advocated for designs that harmonize with nature, emphasizing the integration of natural elements in living spaces. Sam Shu Qin, co-founder of Our Singapore Reefs, encouraged the younger generation to contribute to ocean conservation. Fashion designer Chen Peng emphasized the cultural and practical aspects of sustainability in fashion.
This forum represents a significant step in media cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Singapore, highlighting the innovative potential and collaborative spirit of the younger generation from both countries.
