Cabinet Sets Initial Sugarcane Price at 1,160 Baht Per Ton for 2024/25

Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved the initial sugarcane price for the 2024/25 production season at 1,160 baht per ton. This decision also includes a return on sugar production and sales of 497.14 baht per ton.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that the Cabinet meeting finalized the sugarcane pricing for the upcoming season. The price applies uniformly across nine sugarcane calculation areas, reflecting a sweetness level of 10 CCS, or 90.01 percent of the estimated average nationwide. The initial return on the production and sales of granulated sugar is set at 497.14 baht per ton of sugarcane.

Government agencies involved in the process have expressed no objections and are prepared to support technological advancements in the industry. Initiatives include promoting agricultural machinery to reduce labor costs, encouraging the harvest of fresh sugarcane instead of burning, and expediting research on sugarcane pricing. These measures aim to ensure fair and appropriate pricing for the Thai sugarcane and sugar industry.
