Bangkok Prepares for Heavy Rainfall from November 5-9

Bangkok:Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, has announced preparations for expected heavy rainfall in the city from November 5-9. The Meteorological Department forecasts unstable weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail, especially affecting Bangkok.

According to Thai News Agency, to address potential impacts, water levels have been lowered to manage heavy rainfall, and all districts have been instructed to closely monitor the situation, with particular attention to strong winds that could lead to falling trees. The Royal Barge Procession on November 6 is a significant event, and officials are focused on ensuring smooth proceedings, enhancing landscaping, and securing pier safety for public attendees.

Mr. Chatchart noted that flooding issues are primarily in areas with ongoing construction, such as the BTS Skytrain project. Floodwaters typically recede within an hour, though some areas, like drainage ponds around Ramkhamhaeng 90, may face challenges due to unopened waterways by contractors. Despite this, the intermittent nature of the expected rainfall and prepared drainage equipment are anticipated to prevent significant problems.

Additionally, Mr. Chatchart mentioned that the disaster status for Lat Krabang and Nong Chok districts will be lifted within 1-2 days, as the situation in those areas has improved.
