According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, has announced that the Meteorological Department has issued a warning concerning Typhoon Kalmaegi, predicting increased rainfall in upper Thailand. Bangkok and its surrounding areas are expected to experience significant rainfall during this period. Additionally, the Royal Irrigation Department has increased the water discharge from the Chao Phraya River basin, while the Royal Thai Navy Hydrographic Department has warned of high sea levels from November 5 to 14. In response, several agencies have been assigned specific roles to mitigate the storm's impact.
The Drainage Office will monitor the situation, coordinate with relevant agencies, and report weather conditions to supervisors. They are tasked with controlling water levels, inspecting construction sites that might affect drainage, and preparing necessary equipment and personnel for immediate deployment.
The Department of Public Works is set to inspect advertising signs and buildings to ensure their stability. Meanwhile, the Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has prepared fire trucks, rescue equipment, and personnel to assist those affected by strong winds and flooding.
The City Law Enforcement Office will deploy patrol vehicles and officers to assist in flood-prone areas and facilitate traffic flow in coordination with the District Office. The Traffic and Transportation Department is tasked with ensuring the proper functioning of traffic lights and monitoring areas via CCTV for potential flooding or infrastructure damage.
The Environmental Office is preparing to address fallen trees that may obstruct roads or impact homes, providing immediate assistance to the public. Simultaneously, the Treasury Department has established an engine repair unit to support the Drainage Office and other departments with necessary tools and personnel.
The Health Department will provide medicines, medical supplies, and mobile health service units, while the Bangkok Budget Bureau is responsible for supporting sandbag procurement and flood relief efforts.
District Offices are organizing mobile units to facilitate traffic and inspect water barriers. They are prepared to address flooding problems and stabilize any broken trees or billboards. Finally, the Public Relations Office will keep the public informed about the storm, flood-prone areas, and necessary precautions, including potential evacuations.
