Bangkok Election Commission Chairman Prepares for Weather Contingencies in Gubernatorial Election

Bangkok: The Chairman of the Election Commission inspected the Bangkok gubernatorial election, vowing to handle any contingency plans, including rain and flooding. The Chairman of the Election Commission inspected polling station number 12 in Khlong Chan subdistrict before entering the polling booth. The overall situation at all polling stations was normal and orderly. They were not concerned about the rain and had contingency plans in place. The target voter turnout is 70%.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Klanwarin, Chairman of the Election Commission (EC), visited and observed the voting process for the Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMA) member elections at polling station No. 12, Khlong Chan Subdistrict, Bang Kapi District, Bangkok. The polling station, located in the parking lot of Crystal Design Center CDC, has 641 eligible voters for the Bangkok Governor election and 633 for the BMA Council member election. Mr. Narong offered encouragement to the polling station officials and instructed them to perform their duties smoothly and legally. This area has three polling stations, and citizens had been waiting to vote since early morning before the polls opened.

Mr. Narong revealed that the overall situation at all polling stations remains normal and orderly. He expressed confidence in the readiness of the Election Commission. He also mentioned that yesterday's weather forecast indicated heavy rain in some areas of Bangkok, prompting him to instruct all polling stations to be prepared. Furthermore, he outlined contingency plans for emergencies such as heavy rain blowing tents away or flooding, which he believes will be manageable. He urged citizens to exercise their right to vote before 5:00 PM to avoid potential afternoon rain, aiming for a voter turnout exceeding the previous target of 70%.

Regarding the elections for the Mayor and City Council members of Pattaya in Chonburi Province, the Election Commission has emphasized the importance of publicizing information on how to vote correctly and avoid invalid ballots. Furthermore, citizens who are unable to vote due to other commitments should notify the authorities of their reason for absence at least seven days before and seven days after the election (June 21-27, 2026, and June 29-July 5, 2026).
