Bangkok: The government is delighted that Bangkok has secured the number one spot as the most visited city by tourists in 2025. It anticipates a 3% increase in total flights by 2026 and has instructed relevant agencies to prepare for the increased number of flights during the New Year holiday season.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is pleased with the results of the Euromonitor International Top 100 City Destinations Index 2025, which ranked Bangkok as the most visited city in the world for 2025, welcoming a record 30.3 million international tourists. This reinforces the government's tourism promotion policy and reflects the image of Thai people as welcoming hosts to tourists from around the world.
Ms. Airin further stated that according to data from the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. (AeroThai), for the fiscal year 2025 (September 2024 - October 2025), Thailand had a total of 904,796 flights, increasing towards the end of the year. The Winter Schedule for December 2025 projects a total of 84,543 flights, and in January 2026, it is expected to reach 87,835 flights. Meanwhile, the projected total for the fiscal year 2026 (September 2025 - October 2026) is 928,165 flights, comprising 473,364 international flights, 343,422 domestic flights, and 111,379 flights passing through Thai airspace. The average number of flights is projected at 2,543 flights per day, a 3% increase from the previous year.
During the New Year holiday period (December 29, 2025 - January 7, 2026), it is estimated that there will be a total of 27,632 flights, or an average of 2,763 flights per day. The government has instructed relevant agencies to prepare and implement various measures to accommodate the increased volume of flights during the New Year festival, in order to ensure safe, efficient air traffic management and minimize delays.
