Army Region Prepares to Reclaim Prasat Ta Kwai Amidst Thai-Cambodian Cooperation

Bangkok: The Second Army Region commander has confirmed that Prasat Ta Kwai is under Thai sovereignty, emphasizing ongoing efforts to enhance Thai-Cambodian cooperation without revealing specific military tactics for reclaiming the area. This cooperation includes the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the removal of mines, border management at Ban Nong Chan and Nong Ya Kaeo, and the construction of a semi-permanent fence.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Wirayut Raksin, commander of the Second Army Region, reiterated that Ta Kwai Temple belongs to Thailand and assured that his soldiers remain prepared at all times. Although he refrained from disclosing the strategies to reclaim the area, he expressed gratitude to Thai citizens for their support. Lt. Gen. Raksin addressed reports suggesting that Cambodia had sent a letter accusing Thailand of preparing to use force to reclaim Ta Kwai Temple, dismissing these claims as untrue. He acknowledged the presence of abandoned landmines and emphasized the need for their swift removal to ensure soldiers' safety. Border management efforts are being pursued under a joint agreement, utilizing the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) mechanisms, particularly at Ban Nong Chan-Nong Ya Kaeo in Sa Kaeo Province.

Lt. Gen. Wira Yut engaged in a religious discussion with Luang Pu Sen Panyatharo of Wat Pa Nong Saeng in Udon Thani Province. During the meeting, Luang Pu presented medals and Buddha statues to the Second Army Region Commander and his delegation. The commander also received essential supplies for distribution to soldiers along the border, as well as three backhoes. These will be instrumental in constructing over 100 roads along the border, stretching from Chong An Ma in Ubon Ratchathani Province to Buriram Province. The expedited construction of these roads aims to facilitate the delivery of consumer goods and ensure the rapid transport of military equipment, yielding significant operational benefits.
