Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has called on Worapak Thanyawong to address accusations from the United States linking him to scammers. The name "Woraphat" appeared on a list of 28 individuals potentially facing U.S. sanctions for alleged involvement in scams and human trafficking networks.
According to Thai News Agency, the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee sent a letter to the U.S. government requesting an investigation into these individuals. The list includes Worapak Thanyawong, a former Deputy Minister of Finance. Anutin, who is both Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, stated that those accused must hire legal representation and work to clear their names. He emphasized that the current government is not involved in these allegations.
When questioned about whether the United States had asked the government to speed up the investigation, Mr. Anutin replied, "Which government? Not this government." This statement suggests a clear distinction between the current administration and the accusations put forth by the U.S. authorities.
