Ubon Ratchathani: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has united the Isaan MPs of the Bhumjaithai Party, dismissing any notions of campaign preparations following his declaration of readiness to transition to the opposition if he loses his position as Minister of Interior.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin made these remarks after inspecting a construction project aimed at addressing flooding in the Phibun Mangsahan community in Ubon Ratchathani Province. He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior plans to visit regions prone to flooding, predicting rainfall levels similar to last year. Anutin highlighted past learnings, indicating that blockages in waterways, rather than the volume of water, were the primary cause of previous damages. Consequently, provincial governors have been tasked with clearing waterways, including rivers, canals, swamps, ponds, and drainage pipes, with significant cooperation from local residents who have offered their land as temporary water reservoirs.
On the topic of engaging with Isaan generals and MPs, Anutin refuted claims of election campaigning. He noted that as part of the government coalition, it is routine for MPs from various parties, including Pheu Thai Party and Thai Ruam Palang Party, to participate in discussions on local issues. Anutin emphasized that party affiliation is secondary when addressing community challenges, asserting that all MPs serve the collective needs of their constituents.
Despite speculations regarding his political future, Anutin reiterated his commitment to his responsibilities, stating that his efforts are not contingent on holding a ministerial position. As the top party-list MP for Bhumjaithai, he affirmed his dedication to addressing issues nationwide, underscoring his allegiance to the electorate. When questioned about his desire to continue in the Interior Ministry, Anutin tactfully diverted the conversation, opting instead to comment on the scenic view behind him.
