AIS Reports Unprecedented Surge in Data Usage During New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Bangkok: AIS revealed a significant surge in data usage during the New Year's Eve countdown, with an astounding 515% increase compared to previous years. According to Thai News Agency, this surge was particularly noticeable at major event venues like Siam Square, where data usage spiked by 226%, and at ICONSIAM, where AIS 5G data usage registered a remarkable increase. AIS highlighted that data was predominantly used for communication on social media platforms. Facebook led the pack with over 28.3 million GB of data usage, followed by YouTube with 12.1 million GB, and TikTok with 4.3 million GB. This reflects a comprehensive shift towards a digital-first lifestyle among Thais, fueled by changing user behaviors and an increased focus on embedded digital experiences. Kitti Ngamjetanarom, Chief Technology Officer of AIS, emphasized the digital behavior of Thai people during the holiday period, noting a significant rise in video and social media data usage. "This year's insights clearly reflect that Thais are placing more importance on online experiences, and AIS is ready to continue developing its intelligent network to ensure customers can connect, share, and celebrate every important moment seamlessly," he stated. The statistics further revealed the top provinces with the highest data usage, with Bangkok leading, followed by Chonburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, and others. The peak mobile phone usage time was identified between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM on New Year's Eve. For home internet, the AIS and 3BB FIBRE 3 services saw their peak usage between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM, with the most popular applications being YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Netflix. During the same period, sports content on the AIS PLAY app emerged as the most watched, followed by series and movies. This comprehensive data analysis highlights the evolving digital landscape in Thailand, as more individuals embrace online platforms for communication and entertainment during festive periods.
