Bangkok: The Department of Water Resources is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative to empower young conservationists in Thailand by promoting the protection of the nation's vital wetland ecosystems.
According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Water Resources organized a creative competition titled "School Wetland Management" aimed at engaging primary and secondary school students. The competition encouraged the students to leverage their knowledge and skills to address environmental challenges and develop sustainable wetland management practices in their schools or local communities. By emphasizing local wisdom and sustainable water management, the initiative aims to foster a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens.
The competition garnered significant interest nationwide, with 48 schools submitting entries. The judging committee has now announced the winners. In the primary school category, the first prize was awarded to The School of Moral Development at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Sakon Nakhon Province. The first runner-up was Wat Pitulathirach Rangsarit Kindergarten from Chachoengsao Province, and the second runner-up prize went to Ban Non Somboon Community School (Bangkok Bank 29) in Bueng Kan Province. An honorable mention was given to Sri Samrong Kindergarten in Sukhothai Province.
For secondary school students, Phothong Wittayanusorn School in Bueng Kan Province secured the first prize. Mae Sariang "Boriphat Suksa" School from Mae Hong Son Province was the first runner-up, while Wat Ko Phet Community School in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province received the second runner-up prize. Khun Khuan Wittayakom School from Phayao Province received an honorable mention.
This initiative underscores the Department of Water Resources' commitment to nurturing young minds and equipping them with the tools needed to effectively manage and protect Thailand's precious wetland resources.
