Virtual Launch of Review Report of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025

The launch of the Mid-Term Review (MTR) Report of the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 organised by the ASEAN Secretariat, with the support from ASEAN Regional Integration Support (ARISE) Plus was held virtually on Wednesday, 28th April 2021.

Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy in her capacity as Lead of the High-Level Task Force for ASEAN Economic Integration (HLTF-EI) for Brunei Darussalam was invited to attend the virtual launching event as one of the panelists.

The event was also attended by His Excellency Dato Paduka Lim Jock Joi, Secretary General of ASEAN, His Excellency Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community (DSG AEC), His Excellency Igor Driesmans Ambassador of the European Union to ASEAN and Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanti DSLJ Haji Abd Rahman, ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Chair in 2021. HLTF-EI Leads, SEOM Leads, Senior Officials Meetings of other ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) sectors, Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR), the ASEAN-BAC and Joint Business Councils, relevant entities associated to ASEAN, Missions to ASEAN and officials from ASEAN Secretariat also participated in the event.

 

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025 was adopted by the ASEAN Leaders at the 27th ASEAN Summit on 22 November 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is aimed towards achieving the vision of having an AEC by 2025.

 

The objective of the launch of the Mid-Term Review (MTR) Report was to raise the level of awareness and understanding of the ASEAN constituency on the progress made in the first half of implementation of the AEC Blueprint 2025, the areas that need to be improved and recommendations for the way forward.

 

Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, in her speech, expressed that the launch of the MTR is timely and highly significant as we assess the implementation progress of the AEC Blueprint over the last five years and ensure that we are on the right track towards achieving our long term ambitions come 2025. She also highlighted that it is important for future goals to be ambitious and holistic for ASEAN Member States to undertake without creating bigger economic gaps within one another and at the same time to progress the collective efforts and policy responses to build back better and foster greater economic resilience.
