Village wiped out in fierce run-offs

An entire village in Tambon Krung Ching, Nakhon Si Thammarat's Noppitam district has been wiped out by runoffs and landslides from Khao Lang mountain.

Mr Thammarong Maneechote, president of Klong Sa Tambon Administrative Organisation, led a group of local officials and villagers to visit Ban Na Khao Lang on foot on Wednesday.

They found to their shock that all the houses in the village within a space of 100 rai were flattened, leaving behind rubbles, fallen trees and power poles and mud.

An official said that the destruction of Ban Na Khao Lang provided a reminder of similar devastation when a big flood struck Pipoon district almost 30 years ago.

Mr Sunthorn Jomrith, assistant village head of Village 7 in Tambon Krung Ching, said that the flash flood this year was so strong and came so face that caught most villagers unprepared.
