Bangkok: Vietjet Thailand has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with OR to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in its operations. The airline plans to expand its Green Routes initiative by the first quarter of 2026, including the Bangkok-Cam Ranh route, and implement SAF in all flights on the Bangkok-Da Nang route to advance the aviation industry's "Net Zero" goal.
According to Thai News Agency, the MOU was signed by Mr. Pichit Jearakittimsak, Chief Financial Officer of Vietjet Air (Thailand) Limited, and Mr. Paisal Udomkulvanich, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Energy Solutions Business, OR. This partnership follows a successful feasibility study in 2024, during which the two companies conducted Vietjet Air's first commercial flight test using SAF on the Bangkok-Da Nang route. The test took place at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, marking a key achievement in Thailand's Fly Green initiative.
Mr. Woranate Laprabang, CEO of Vietjet Thailand, commented on the company's continued efforts in its Green Route expansion plan under the Fly Green program, now in its sixth year. The airline is committed to maintaining its policy of using SAF as part of its fuel blend for commercial flights. The recent expansion includes the Bangkok-Phu Quoc route, which uses a 1% SAF blend with 99% Jet A-1 fuel. Vietjet Thailand has also announced plans to further expand SAF routes by early 2026 with the launch of the Bangkok-Cam Ranh route. This effort aligns with the global aviation industry's carbon reduction policy and CORSIA guidelines.
The collaboration between Vietjet Thailand and OR is also set to explore additional partnerships in clean energy for the aviation sector, aiming to reduce carbon emissions further. Mr. Woranee highlighted Vietjet Thailand's target of increasing SAF usage to at least 5% of total fuel by 2030, contributing to the global Net Zero initiative.
Mr. Paisarn Udomkulvanich of OR stated that the company would continue to supply sustainable aviation fuel for Vietjet Thailand's flights. OR recently upgraded its SAF usage on the scheduled Suvarnabhumi-Phu Quoc flight, showcasing its commitment to environmental stewardship. As a prominent airline in Thailand, OR is dedicated to developing energy innovations and services to support the transition to clean energy, contributing to a sustainable energy ecosystem and a low-carbon economy in Thailand.
