Bangkok: "Varawut" has successfully gathered a group of 12 former MPs and key figures from the Chart Thai Pattana Party to wear the "Bhumjaithai Party" shirts, marking a significant political shift ahead of the 2026 general election. Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, formerly the leader of the Chart Thai Development Party, spearheaded this move, which includes notable figures such as Mr. Sorachat Sujit and Mr. Nattawut Prasertsuwan, among others.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut expressed confidence in the decision, stating that the political landscape had changed, which limited the effectiveness of smaller parties like the Chart Thai Pattana Party. He emphasized that joining the Bhumjaithai Party would allow for a broader collaboration with government ministries, enhancing their ability to serve their constituencies more efficiently. The MPs from Chart Thai Pattana Party, primarily representing Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, and Roi Et provinces, are expected to strengthen the Bhumjaithai Party's influence.
Mr. Varawut addressed questions about his motivations, explaining that the move was driven by a desire to work within a more robust party framework. He brushed off concerns about his support base's reaction, saying that effectiveness in governance was more important than party allegiance. He reiterated that despite the change of party, the personnel and their capabilities remain consistent, now bolstered by the Bhumjaithai Party's extensive network.
Responding to rumors about a temporary alliance, Mr. Varawut firmly denied any plans for a short-term collaboration. He stated that the integration into Bhumjaithai is a permanent commitment to enhance the party's resources. On being asked about potential candidates for the next election, Mr. Varawut refrained from commenting, citing his current non-leadership role in the Chart Thai Pattana Party.
Regarding his potential candidacy for the prime ministerial role within the Bhumjaithai Party, Mr. Varawut expressed no objections, emphasizing that their main goal is to serve the people effectively. He also acknowledged the competitive political environment, particularly in Suphan Buri province, and expressed readiness to contest vigorously in the upcoming elections.
