Prachuap khiri khan: Authorities intercepted a van carrying over 400 kg of crystal methamphetamine destined for southern Thailand. Dramatic scenes unfolded as police intercepted the van, which sped away and ultimately crashed into a private residence's fence. The driver subsequently confessed to being hired for 500,000 baht to transport the drugs from Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province, to Songkhla.
According to Thai News Agency, highway police in Prachuap Khiri Khan had received a request from the Narcotics Suppression Police to help intercept the suspicious gray van. The van was suspected of transporting narcotics to the southern region of Thailand. Officers were deployed along the route to inspect for the vehicle.
The police were able to locate a van matching the description at an intersection in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan district. As they attempted to intercept it, the driver sped away along the city road. He eventually lost control and crashed into a house fence. The 23-year-old driver was apprehended at the Don Sai traffic light intersection in Mueang Prachuap district.
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 25 sacks of methamphetamine, amounting to 464 bags and weighing approximately 464 kilograms. The suspect confessed to receiving 500,000 baht for transporting the methamphetamine from Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, to Songkhla Province. He disclosed that he had stayed at a resort in Ratchaburi Province the previous night and intended to continue his stay in Chumphon Province before being apprehended. The seized drugs and the vehicle were handed over to the investigating officer for further legal proceedings.
