Chongzuo: Typhoon Narra has led to severe flooding throughout Chongzuo City, located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China. The storm's impact has resulted in widespread inundation, with eyewitness footage released on Monday capturing floodwaters surging forcefully into urban areas.
According to Thai News Agency, officials in Longzhou County have elevated their flood control emergency response to Level 1, the highest alert status, in light of the situation. Concurrently, the Chongzuo City Flood Control and Drought Relief Command Center has issued an urgent warning about flood prevention and control. This action comes after reports that three townships in Ningming County received over 500 millimeters of rainfall from August 21 to 24.
China's state-run CCTV television station has reported that approximately 54,000 residents have been evacuated from the flood-stricken areas. Among them, 8,087 individuals have been temporarily relocated to emergency shelters provided by the government.
Typhoon Narra has been lingering in the Gulf of Tonkin, part of the northern South China Sea, for several days. This has resulted in heavy rainfall across the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and neighboring provinces such as Hainan and Guangdong. Authorities anticipate continued heavy rainfall until Wednesday and have issued warnings for the regions of Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, and Fujian to prepare for additional torrential downpours.
