Two US Sailors Repatriated After Drunken Brawl in Pattaya

Pattaya: Two sailors from a US aircraft carrier were returned to their ship following a drunken altercation in Thailand, according to Thai police. The incident occurred near Pattaya's infamous Walking Street, where local authorities were alerted to a "small scuffle" involving the sailors early Thursday morning, as confirmed by city police chief Colonel Anek Srathongyoo. However, he described the incident as "trivial," noting that residents had called the police merely to prevent any escalation. The sailors were not charged, as their actions did not breach any Thai laws, and they were subsequently sent back to their ship by the US Navy. The USS Abraham Lincoln's port call in Thailand has attracted international media attention following reports of poor living conditions on board after an extended period at sea. The ship's arrival has also turned the spotlight on Pattaya, a city known for its vibrant ni ghtlife and popularity among foreign tourists. Colonel Anek mentioned that there have been no other significant incidents since the USS Abraham Lincoln docked. A local masseuse noted that the atmosphere has been quieter compared to previous military visits, despite businesses' hopes for a boost during the low season. Nattakamol, 48, remarked that the presence of the sailors has not significantly impacted local businesses, contrary to the buzz on social media. Last month, US Democratic lawmakers urged an investigation into the conditions aboard the Lincoln, citing issues such as food shortages and broken plumbing. President Donald Trump dismissed these concerns, which have intensified criticism of his prolonged conflict with Iran. The USS George Washington has since replaced the Lincoln in the Middle East.
