The cabinet on Tuesday approved a two-step salary increase for 721 officials working for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) retroactively from last October 1 until the end of this September.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha clarified that the special pay rise was a reward and morale booster for the sacrifice and hard-working of the officials who are ordinary officials, but were assigned to work extra for the NCPO.
The NCPO is a special organization which was set up in an unusual situation and is operational around the clock. Hence, officials working for the NCPO are required to work odd and long hours and, for that matter, deserve reward or compensation.
