Two committees will be formed to consider law amendments and rehabilitation measures in case if methamphetamine or yaa baa is removed from Category One list of narcotic drugs and put in Category Two list, said Dr Boonchai Somboonsuk, secretary-general of Food and Drugs Administration, on Wednesday.

He said that justice permanent secretary would chair one committee tasked with amending related laws regarding methamphetamine and another committee which will look into the aspect of rehabilitation of yaa baa addicts will be headed by the public heath permanent secretary.

Meanwhile, public health deputy permanent secretary Dr Visit Tangnapakorn both the public health and justice ministries must work closely in forming a process in the rehabilitation of drug addicts and especially with the consent of the addicts because of the effects on nervous system from the drug to be used in rehabilitation process.

The Justice Ministry is of the opinion that methamphetamine is needed during the rehabilitation but must be strictly prescribed by doctors but the drug must be delisted from Category One list first.
