According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around midnight in a housing estate at Moo 12, Soi Ruean Kham 17, Pa Daed Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. The fire trapped five occupants inside: a 35-year-old married couple, their two 5-year-old twin daughters, and a 70-year-old grandmother. Firefighters and rescue units from multiple units battled the blaze for over an hour. All five occupants were evacuated from the house but were unconscious. Emergency personnel attempted CPR at the scene before transporting them to three hospitals in Chiang Mai city. Unfortunately, all five later died. It took approximately one hour to bring the fire under control, resulting in extensive damage to the house.
The deceased have been identified as Mrs. Sunee Taichai, age 70; Mr. Kawin Taichai, age 35; Ms. Warisara Chalaykrai, age 35; and the twins, Lalisa Taichai and Lalinda Taichai, both aged 5.
The Chiang Mai City District administration inspected the scene. Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, occurring while all residents were asleep, preventing them from escaping in time. The exact cause will be determined by forensic investigators.
