A Bangkok traffic police officer was killed on duty after he was hit by a truck on the Chalongrat expressway this morning (Nov 21).
The incident was reported at about 4.30am at the exit ramp to Lat Phrao road of the Chalongrat expressway.
The officer was identified as Pol Sen Sgt Maj Padet Pulonkaeo attached to the Traffic Police Division's Expressway and tollway traffic Control Center.
Pol Sub Lt Kasin Chu-tanya, expressway traffic police inspector, said Pol Sen Sgt Maj Padet was on duty patrolling the expressway from 6.00pm of yesterday to 6.00am today. The officer conducted motorcycle patrol on the expressway in Bang Na, Din Daeng, and Jatuchote area.
A check on the CCTV cameras near the scene found a suspected truck slowing down the speed and stopping by the side of the expressway with unknown cause. Shortly afterwards, he drove off.
The officer said he suspected the truck could hit Pol Sen Sgt Maj Padet's motorcycle and fled.
At the accident scene, they found a badly damaged motorcycle Honda CBR 200 at the scene with the body of the officer in police uniform lying dead nearby.
The police are looking through video footages of CCTV cameras along the route to find the licence plate of the truck.
The body of the dead officer was sent to Chulalongkorn hospital for autopsy.
