Bangkok: This coming December, Thais will be eagerly awaiting the results of the selection process for traditional Thai costumes as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Minister of Culture continues to promote the wearing of royally-designed traditional Thai costumes, a testament to the graciousness of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who compiled and disseminated knowledge leading to the royally-designated traditional Thai costumes becoming the national costume in 1960.
According to Thai News Agency, the initiative underscores the cultural significance and historical value of the "Royal Thai Dress" to the nation. The promotion of these traditional costumes is not only a celebration of Thai heritage but also an effort to secure international recognition for a practice deeply rooted in the country's history. The decision by UNESCO, expected this December, could further elevate the global appreciation for Thailand's cultural dress.
