Songkhla: A Toyota Fortuner's radiator exploded just before the Prime Minister arrived for a meeting to hear opinions on solving problems and developing strategies for five southern provinces at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya in Songkhla. EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) teams rushed to the scene and found the explosion likely occurred after a long drive in extremely hot weather.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 1:30 PM on August 31st, at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya in Songkhla province. Reporters observed the area opposite the Faculty of Education and Industrial Technology building, the venue for a workshop to gather opinions, identify problems and obstacles, and propose development guidelines for the five southern provinces (Songkhla, Satun, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat). The workshop was held at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Songkhla campus, Bo Yang subdistrict, Mueang Songkhla district, Songkhla province, and was chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with cabinet ministers and relevant agencies.
Prior to the Prime Minister's arrival, a loud noise was heard after a Toyota Fortuner belonging to an official, parked across from the auditorium, was seen making a loud noise and emitting smoke from the engine compartment. Military personnel, police officers, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers immediately arrived to investigate the area.
Police have initially explained that the fire may have been caused by a radiator explosion, likely due to the vehicle having been driven a long distance in extremely hot weather.
