Thailand’s Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today (Thursday) that tourists from India and China, both countries which require a negative RT-PCR test result and US$10,000 health insurance coverage when entering, will be required to take out health insurance coverage which covers COVID-19 for the duration of their stay in Thailand plus seven days.
He also said that arriving tourists who develop respiratory disease symptoms will be required to undergo rapid antigen and/or PCR tests and samples of waste water from all flights from China will be tested for COVID-19 variants and sub-variants.
Air crew, students and other travellers from China and India may use letters of guarantee from their host organisations, specifying health insurance coverage, to enter Thailand. Thai immigration officials will randomly check the insurance coverage of these passengers and, if they do not have such documents, they will be advised to take out a health insurance coverage before entering Thailand, said Anutin.
The public health minister also said that Thailand has arranged for COVID vaccinations for foreigners on a voluntary basis and will charge an appropriate fee for the service.
The vaccines to be used were procured by the Thai Government and the vaccination services will be available at specified venues in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Pattaya and Phuket, such as the Institute of Dermatology, Lerdsin and Rajavithi hospitals and Bang Rak medical centre in Bangkok.
To cope with increasing foreign arrivals, especially tourists from China, Anucha said that a sub-committee has been set up for the management of the health, economic and social aspects.
