Thick Smog Disrupts New Year’s Eve Travel Plans in New Delhi

New delhi: Thick smog blanketed New Delhi on Wednesday, causing flight and train delays as the Indian capital faced poor air quality on New Year's Eve. Data from the Federal Pollution Control Board shows that air quality in Delhi has reached critical levels, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) over the past 24 hours soaring to 448, well above the maximum limit of 500, at several monitoring stations across the city.

According to Thai News Agency, while a statement from the airport indicated that 78 incoming flights and 70 outgoing flights were cancelled, two additional flights were diverted to other airports. Previously, the Indian Meteorological Department predicted that dense fog was likely to continue covering several northern Indian states due to weak winds and higher humidity levels.
