BMA.12 Apr- National Human Rights Commission issued a statement concerning the case of Burmese refugees in Thailand
due to the unrest in Myanmar The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) has been monitoring the situation continuously. In 2023, there were reports of clashes of various forces in the opposite areas of Mae Hong Son and Tak provinces, resulting in people fleeing the perils. Not peaceful, crossing over to the Thai side periodically and live in temporary shelters Especially in early April 2023, there was a violent clash. As a result, a large number of Burmese immigrants fled to Thailand.
The NHRCT is deeply concerned about the situation and the safety of Myanmar people fleeing the unrest into Thailand. Therefore, I would like to emphasize the Thai government and related agencies to take care of Myanmar refugees. by placing them in a safe shelter including providing humanitarian assistance They provide food, drinking water, and other things necessary for life during the shelter in Thailand. and asks the Thai government to adhere to human rights principles that will not deport Myanmar refugees If the situation is still unsafe and may endanger the life of the deported person According to the principle, do not push back. which is Thailand's obligation under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Ask relevant agencies to take care of the safety of Thai people living near the Thai-Myanmar border. who may also be affected by hostilities, especially children, women, people with disabilities and the elderly
The NHRCT asks the government to expedite responsible agencies to ensure that the Prime Minister's Office Regulation on Screening of Aliens Entering the Kingdom and Unable to Return to Their Country of Domicile B.E. Act ASAP In order to guarantee the protection of persons from being deported, the NHRCT will closely monitor the situation.
