Bangkok: The Department of Livestock Development is expediting the delivery of animal feed and veterinary supplies to continue caring for animals in border areas. Thammanat has urgently instructed the Department of Livestock Development to expedite assistance to livestock farmers along the Thai-Cambodian border following fighting that has affected numerous people, farmers, and livestock.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Somchuan Ratnamangklanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, revealed that the department is accelerating assistance to livestock farmers and animal caregivers in the affected areas covering six provinces: Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Trat, and Sa Kaeo, encompassing 20 districts, 196 subdistricts, and 1,704 villages. A preliminary survey as of December 9, 2025, found a total of 5,599,993 animals in the affected areas, including 432,585 cattle, 90,672 buffaloes, 122,716 pigs, 23,959 goats and sheep, over 4.7 million poultry, 148,647 dogs, and 65,139 cats. Currently, 432 animals have been reported dead or missing in Ubon Ratchathani and Surin provinces, mostly poultry, cattle, and buffalo.
In providing emergency assistance, the Department of Livestock Development has already distributed 11,000 kilograms of forage, 8,000 kilograms of dog and cat food, and 1,000 kilograms of cattle feed. They have also provided dog and cat cages, animal health kits (minerals, antibiotics, vitamins), evacuated 30 animals from high-risk areas, and deployed mobile veterinary teams for continued care. Furthermore, they have received support in the form of dried hay bales from the Army Veterinary Department and plan to send an additional 111,000 kilograms of animal feed to ensure continued support.
The Department of Livestock Development holds daily meetings of the Special Operations Center's steering committee to monitor the situation and provide rapid support during and after the situation has been effectively resolved, as instructed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Captain Thamanat Phromphao.
