Bangkok: Thammanat is confident in handling the flooding situation caused by Tropical Storm Kalmaegi and has ordered expedited drainage and integrated water management to accommodate the expected increase in water volume. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Colonel Thammanat Prompao revealed the response to the water situation caused by Tropical Storm Kalmaegi, currently approaching Thailand. He stated that he has assigned the Royal Irrigation Department to coordinate with the Office of National Water Resources to accommodate the increased water volumes due to the expected increased rainfall. Yesterday, he visited Pathum Thani Province to monitor the water situation and expressed confidence that the overall situation can still be managed. He is closely monitoring the water situation due to the constantly fluctuating weather conditions.
According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives added that regarding the water situation in many dams and reservoirs, which are currently nearing capacity, he has ordered relevant agencies to expedite water drainage. Areas of particular concern include the Chao Phraya River basin in Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan, where water must be drained and obstructed as much as possible. Next week, he will hold discussions with all relevant agencies to integrate water management for consistency and efficiency.
