Udon Thani: Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has actively joined the campaign efforts for the Pheu Thai Party's candidate for the Udon Thani Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) presidency, marking his second day of participation. Thaksin's presence was met with a warm reception from local residents as he emphasized the party's economic expertise in hopes of garnering support from the Udon Thani community. According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin took the stage opposite Srithanya Market in Ban Dung District to campaign for Sarawut Petchpanomporn, known as Pop, a former four-term Member of Parliament for Udon Thani. Pop is contesting as candidate number 2 under the Pheu Thai Party banner in the upcoming election scheduled for November 24. The event attracted many attendees from Ban Dung District and neighboring areas such as Thung Fon and Phibun Rak, along with participants from Chiang Mai. During his 40-minute speech, Thaksin highlighted his past achievements, including the 30-baht universal h ealthcare scheme, village funds, and SML projects. He also outlined plans to enhance the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) initiative to boost income through international sales. Addressing economic challenges, Thaksin mentioned that Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra intends to restructure household debt and improve agricultural product prices. He underscored the importance of eliminating monopolistic practices and outdated laws to foster trade freedom, predicting an economic revival by next year. After his address, Thaksin was warmly greeted by attendees bearing roses, with whom he interacted closely. The race for the Udon Thani PAO presidency is intense, with Pheu Thai competing against the Prachachon Party, represented by Kanisorn Khurirang, a former two-term president of the Udon Thani Provincial Lawyers Council. In the past, the Progressive Movement faced a significant defeat, but recent general election results indicate a narrowing gap. A recent survey from Udon Poll, conducted by Udon Thani Rajabhat University, indicates that Pheu Thai's candidates are trailing behind their Prachachon counterparts. However, with over 47% of voters still undecided, the competition remains highly competitive.
