Thailand’s Successful Hosting of IMF-World Bank Forum Highlights National Standards

Bangkok:The government has emphasized that the recently concluded IMF-World Bank 2026 forum highlighted "Thailand's standards" and has expressed its readiness to leverage this success to boost economic, investment, and tourism opportunities.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ekkapop Pienpises, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the forum demonstrated Thailand's capability in managing complex global missions. The annual meeting, held from October 12-18, 2026, in Bangkok, attracted representatives from 191 countries, including finance ministers, central bank governors, and private sector executives. The IMF and World Bank extended their gratitude to the Thai delegation and all sectors involved for their support in making the conference a success.

Mr. Ekkapop remarked that the praise received by Thailand throughout the event reflects the country's preparedness in infrastructure, safety, transportation, technology, services, and culture, which facilitated cross-agency collaboration. He highlighted that the successful hosting of such a significant conference proved that Thailand could meet high standards when all parties work together, considering this achievement a national asset.

Credit for the forum's success was attributed to the efforts of various officials and personnel, including those in security, public health, and transportation, as well as service providers, businesses, and the general public who showcased Thailand's hospitality and professionalism. The spokesperson noted that the recognition received was not from any single agency but from those who demonstrated the best of Thailand.

Additionally, Thai culture played a significant role in enhancing national recognition, with elements like Thai silk, food, handicrafts, music, and services contributing to the country's image. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva expressed her admiration for Thai silk during the closing remarks, further highlighting Thailand's cultural appeal.

The government views the established standards from the event as a valuable asset, positioning Thailand as a prime destination for international conferences, investment, and quality tourism, especially as many attendees were global policymakers and business leaders. Mr. Ekkapop emphasized the importance of maintaining these standards to create new opportunities for the Thai economy.
