Bangkok: Thailand's maritime commerce is set to receive a significant boost as human capital becomes the focal point for enhancing the sector's competitiveness. During a recent certificate awarding ceremony for graduating maritime students at the Maritime Training Center, Marine Department, Ministry of Transport, Mr. Sanphet Bunyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport, emphasized the vital role of these new graduates in advancing Thailand's waterway transport and logistics capabilities.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sanphet highlighted the government's commitment to developing transportation infrastructure and logistics systems to boost Thailand's economic opportunities, particularly in connecting to the global trade network. The Ministry of Transport is spearheading this initiative with a comprehensive plan that includes "infrastructure, standards, and personnel" for maritime commerce development.
In terms of human resources, the Ministry is focusing on producing maritime personnel who meet international standards, as required by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Ministry of Transport is also fast-tracking key infrastructure projects, such as Pak Kret Port, Koh Sukorn Port, and Ao Makham Pom Multipurpose Port, to enhance navigation and water transport efficiency. Technology plays a crucial role in upgrading the maritime commerce system. The Ministry is developing the Maritime Single Window (MSW) system to streamline import and export procedures, aiming to reduce costs and enhance convenience.
