Mae Sot:Tak Border controls in Tak province have been tightened to intercept smuggled goods through the Mae Sot-Phop Phra border crossing. The government has implemented these measures in response to recent fighting in Myanmar that resulted in stray bullets landing on the Thai side.
According to Thai News Agency, the government has ordered the suspension of certain import and export activities in Mae Sot and Phop Phra from October 30 to November 5. This action is aimed at protecting public safety and is not a complete closure of all border crossings.
Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul prioritizes the safety of lives and property along the Thai-Myanmar border. Security agencies have intensified control over border trade routes in the affected districts, following the conflict in Myanmar that caused damage in Thailand.
The Naresuan Task Force has notified Mae Sot Customs to suspend the import and export of goods through unapproved channels south of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1. This suspension is set for seven days, from October 30 to November 5, 2026, and aims to prevent the smuggling of goods that might support the fighting in Myanmar, while also reducing risks to public safety.
These measures specifically target certain channels and do not mean a complete closure of border checkpoints or a suspension of all trade between Thailand and Myanmar. Businesses are advised to verify the status of transportation channels with the Mae Sot Customs office.
The government has also instructed local authorities to monitor the situation closely and support citizens affected by the fighting. There have been reports of property damage and injuries, with local agencies providing assistance. Citizens and businesses are advised to stay updated with announcements from Tak Province and relevant task forces until the situation improves.
