Thailand Prepares to Host APEC Summit in 2022

Public relations strategies have been set, as Thailand is preparing to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and related meetings in 2022.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Information and the Government Public Relations Department on 7 July 2021 jointly organized a meeting of the Public Relations Subcommittee on Preparations for the APEC Summit and Related Meetings.

The meeting, chaired by Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Anucha Nakasai, discussed public relations strategies, as well as projects and activities to raise awareness among members of the public on the upcoming APEC Summit.

Mr. Anucha said that emphasis would be placed on encouraging all sectors of Thai society, especially the people’s sector, to join hands in serving as a good host for this significant event. People should be informed of the benefits Thailand would gain from the Summit, in terms of trade, investment, tourism, economy, and the development of quality of life.

According to Mr. Anucha, public relations campaigns on APEC issues will be carried out through all channels: on air, online, and on ground. They aim to communicate with various target groups in Thailand and other APEC economies, as well as the international community.

In November 2021, Thailand will officially announce the theme and priorities as host of APEC in 2022 after the handover from New Zealand as host of APEC in 2021.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has stressed the importance of the APEC Summit to be hosted by Thailand, as it would enhance economic cooperation between Thailand and the world community and restore confidence about the country in the post-COVID-19 era.

APEC is an economic group of 21 members, formed in 1989. It ensures that goods, services, investment and people move easily across borders.
