Ankara: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to evacuate 69 Thai citizens from Iran through Turkey in the initial phase of their evacuation plan. These individuals will be temporarily housed before their scheduled flights back to Thailand on March 8-9.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Bancha Yuenyongjongcharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, along with a delegation from the department, has arrived in Van, Turkey. They are collaborating with the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara, led by Ms. Pannchita Ramyayanon, Charg© d'affaires, to facilitate the evacuation of Thai citizens from Iran. The team held meetings to rehearse operational plans and evaluate the preparedness of the evacuation center, located at the Elite World Hotel in Van, which is serving as a temporary shelter and office for the Royal Thai Embassy in Tehran.
In preparation for the evacuation, they inspected the Kapikoy border crossing in Turkey to ensure readiness for receiving approximately 69 Thai citizens from Iran on March 7, 2026. Following their arrival, the citizens will be accommodated at a temporary shelter before boarding flights back to Thailand on March 8 and March 9, 2026.
The Department of Consular Affairs has advised Thai citizens residing in the Middle East to stay informed through announcements from Thai Embassies and Consulates General in the region.
