Thailand Implements Strict Helmet Law for Motorcycle Riders

Bangkok: Starting today, motorcycle drivers and passengers in Thailand are subject to a fine of 2,000 baht if they fail to wear a helmet.

According to Thai News Agency, the regulation, effective as of June 1, 2025, mandates compliance with the Land Traffic Act, Section 122. This law requires both motorcycle drivers and passengers to wear helmets to ensure their safety. Notably, if a passenger fails to wear a helmet, the driver will face a fine of double the amount.

Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, emphasized the government’s focus on road safety. To further this initiative, the Traffic Management Center of the Royal Thai Police has launched the ‘Road Safety Project.’ This project aims to enhance traffic discipline and ensure smoother and safer traffic management across the country. Authorities have been tasked with identifying roads that are prone to traffic violations or accidents, especially those near educational institutions, to campaign for strict adherence to traffic laws.

Mr. Anukul highlighted the importance of helmet use as a preventive measure against severe head injuries during accidents. He urged the public to adopt safe road practices by consistently wearing helmets and encouraged participation in campaigns to promote road safety. Additionally, police officers have been instructed to enforce traffic laws rigorously to prevent accidents and enhance travel safety.
