Pattaya: Thailand is set to host a significant event in the world of sports for athletes with disabilities, the Asian Boccia Championship, with participants from 16 countries vying to collect points for future Paralympic qualification.
According to Thai News Agency, the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association of Thailand has announced the organization of the “Pattaya 2025 World Boccia Asia and Oceania Regional Championships,” which will take place at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel in Pattaya, Chonburi Province, from May 19-28, 2025. This competition serves as a crucial opportunity for athletes to amass world ranking points needed for the Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games in Japan and the LA2028 Paralympic Games in the United States.
Lieutenant Nayanop Bhirombhakdi, President of the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association of Thailand and Chairman of the competition management committee, emphasized the importance of the event, noting that 16 countries from Asia have committed to participating. He highlighted Thailand’s efforts in preparing the venue, accommodation, and complete facilities to host the event. The championship will provide a platform for athletes to assess their international potential and set long-term goals leading up to the 2028 Paralympic Games.
The competition will feature over 240 participants from 16 countries across Asia and Oceania, including Australia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and host country Thailand.
Thailand’s national Boccia team, consisting of 10 athletes, has been training intensively for the event at the Boccia Training Center. The team will compete in four classes, with athletes like BC1 male Wisanu Huadpradit and BC2 male Worawut Saengampa representing the nation.
The “Pattaya 2025 World Boccia Asia and Oceania Regional Championship” at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel will be open to the public, offering free entry to those interested in attending. Additional details about the championship can be found at www.cpsathailand.com.
