Thailand burned down a huge cache of drugs on Monday morning to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today.
The destroying of the 9.3 tonnes of drugs by heat was presided over by Dr Thawat Suntharajarn, assistant to the Minister of Public Health at Bang Pa-in Industrial Park in Ayutthaya province.
Put in the furnaces with heat of over 850 degree Celsius are 9.3 tonnes of drugs seized from over 6,500 cases of which court rulings have already been closed and ended.
Of the burnt narcotics, methamphetamine alone weighed 7.88 tonnes.
The street price of the burnt narcotics was estimated at 20 billion baht.
