Bangkok: The cabinet has approved the hiring of 10,000 Sri Lankan workers. The Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Thailand and Sri Lanka to proceed with the recruitment of 10,000 Sri Lankan workers, filling the labor shortage gap and establishing a legal employment system to protect their rights.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labor cooperation with Sri Lanka. The agreement aims to bring in 10,000 workers to fill labor shortages in various industries. The employment contract is for two years, extendable for another two years. Upon completion of the contract, workers must return to their country of origin, with the employer bearing all repatriation costs. Employment contracts will be made directly between employers and workers prior to entry into the country. The agreement also includes requirements for work permits and health checks.
