Hohhot: The Thai women’s futsal team emerged victorious against Hong Kong with a 5-2 win in the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup, held at Hohhot Stadium. This win advances Thailand to the semi-finals, bringing them closer to a coveted spot in the Futsal World Cup.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai team, ranked 5th globally, showcased their prowess against Hong Kong, ranked 29th. Thailand entered the match as the Group C champions, having accumulated seven points from three matches. In contrast, Hong Kong advanced as the best third-place team with one win and two losses.
Under the guidance of head coach Thanathorn Santhanaprasit, also known as “Coach O,” Thailand fielded a starting lineup that included Sasiprapa Suksane (GK), Jenjira Bubpha, Ariya Sae-Ten, Nathamon Ajkla, and Darika Phianphailun. The team quickly established dominance, with Praeploy Huajaiphet scoring the first goal just three minutes into the game. Subsequent goals from Ariya Sae-Ten, Jenjira Bubpha, and Nattamon Ajkla, along with a successful penalty by Darika Pian-Plai-Lun, brought Thailand’s lead to 5-0 by the first half.
Despite Hong Kong’s efforts, which included goals from Woo Choi-Yu and So Hoi Lam, they were unable to close the gap significantly. Thailand maintained their lead throughout the second half, ultimately securing a 5-2 victory.
The Thai team’s success in this match sets the stage for their semi-final clash against the winner of the China versus Indonesia match. Scheduled to take place at Hohhot Stadium on May 15, 2025, a victory in this upcoming match would guarantee Thailand a place in the Women’s Futsal World Cup.
