Tashkent: Thai weightlifters celebrated a successful outing at the 2026 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, clinching four additional gold medals. According to Thai News Agency, Yaowaret Permkaew and Wichaya Pratumta emerged as standout performers for the Thai national team. Competing in the girls' 61 kg category, Yaowaret Permkaew started strong in the snatch lift, securing a silver medal with a 95 kg lift. She excelled in the clean and jerk event, lifting 120 kilograms to win the gold medal, and attempted to break the Asian youth record with a 127 kg lift. Although unsuccessful, her efforts in the clean and jerk secured her a total of two gold medals and one silver medal with a combined weight of 215 kilograms. In the boys' junior 70 kg category, Wichaya Pratumta delivered a commendable performance. He earned a bronze medal in the snatch lift with a 119 kg total. Wichaya's clean and jerk lifts were exceptional, with a personal best of 154 kilograms, securing him two gold medals with a tot al weight of 273 kilograms. In total, the Thai weightlifting team has amassed an impressive tally of 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals at the championships, showcasing their prowess and dedication on the international stage.
