Thai Swan Turns the Crisis Around and Restores Product Confidence

Bangkok: Executives of Hong Thai brought Hong Thai inhaler formula 2 to test for microorganisms in the product after the FDA ordered its use to be suspended. Mr. Thiraphong Rabuetham, CEO of Hong Thai Herbs Co., Ltd., led over 100 employees to meet with Mr. Kamol Ounchu, Manager of the Irradiation Center of the National Institute of Nuclear Technology (NINT). The company provided samples of the Hong Thai Inhaler Formula 2 for NINT to be tested for microorganisms to expedite the resolution of the problem of exceeding standard microorganisms in the inhaler.

According to Thai News Agency, the FDA’s suspension of use and distribution of the product prompted the company to recall 200,000 jars of Hong Thai Inhaler Formula 2, registration number G 309/62. The company issued a statement of responsibility, refunding the cost of the product, and apologizing to customers via Facebook. The National Institute of Nuclear Technology (NIIT) opened its herbal product irradiation facility, allowing executives, employees, and members of the media to observe the institute’s efforts to address the problem of microorganisms and fungi in Thai herbal products for medical purposes and export.

The manager of the Irradiation Center at the National Institute of Nuclear Technology stated that the current problems facing Thai companies stem from lack of access to technology and the lack of knowledge and advice from relevant government agencies. He added that businesses with microbial contamination exceeding the standard can be remedied by using radiation. Therefore, he coordinated with the management of the Thai company to have the product tested and recommended the correct and safe method of sterilizing the microorganisms.
