According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved Sergeant Major Chanarong Wongchana from the 1st Operation Unit, Humanitarian Mine Action Unit, National Mine Action Center, Royal Thai Armed Forces Command. The explosion occurred at approximately 10:30 AM today in Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
Initial reports indicate that the explosion resulted in the loss of the lower right leg of Sergeant Major Wongchana. Rescue workers promptly evacuated him from the area and transported him to Nam Yuen Hospital for preliminary treatment and assessment. Plans are in place for his air transfer by helicopter to Sapphasitthiprasong Military Hospital in Warin Chamrap District for continued medical care.
Authorities have confirmed the continuation of their mission in the area with heightened caution. They are increasing inspections and surveillance of regions at risk from landmines and explosive devices.
