Buriram: A Thai soldier suffered injuries from shrapnel after an explosion occurred while he was patrolling the border area near a rock face. The soldier, Sergeant Thanapol Madyadam, from the 1st Army Region, was injured during a routine reconnaissance patrol near checkpoint 28, located at the border between Ta Phraya District in Sa Kaeo Province and Lahan Sai District in Buriram Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Sergeant Thanapol sustained serious injuries to his left hand, losing the tips of his index and middle fingers due to the explosion. He was immediately transported to Nang Rong Hospital in Buriram for urgent medical treatment. Following surgery, plans are in place to transfer him to Chakraphong Camp Hospital in Prachinburi Province if his condition allows for further recovery.
Details regarding the incident revealed that Sergeant Thanapol, part of a special operations unit, encountered a rope hidden beneath leaves during his patrol. Pulling the rope triggered an explosion, resulting in his injuries. The type of explosive device remains unidentified and is currently under investigation by authorities.
Checkpoint 28, where the incident took place, is situated in the Nong Waeng Subdistrict of Lahan Sai District and is known for being a scenic viewpoint along the Thai-Cambodian border. Perched on a high cliff, it provides a clear view of Cambodian territory and is frequented by tourists for its natural beauty.
